We are disappointed by the track conditions and the rail out. We prefer to personally not bet under those conditions.
We don’t like not putting out a race either, so this week we are not staking much but we think the Doncaster is a race of limited hopes - Randwick Race 9.
We think it is a very weak line up. No Super Imposes here. Probably a group two standard at best.
That said we think there is some value here. Because it’s wet, the track should see the inside being used earlier in the day and in the later races fan out to the outside rail. Also finishing speeds can be negated on a heavy track so we think that the on pacers will have the advantage.
We have them is order of:
1 MUGATOO 3 units @ 4 or better
10 CASCADIAN 2 units @10 or better
6 SHOUT THE BAR 1 unit @ 15 or better
13 FUNSTAR 1 unit @15 or better
Mugatoo is a genuine Group horse unlike a lot of these. Can lead if necessary but we think sits off Yeo Dash and powers on. Great bet. No real negatives. Pet distance drawn 4 A lot to like about this one.
Cascadian is another genuine group horse. Has been so well trained for this. Cameron run first up was excellent. Amazing run last start after bad interference. Third up excellent and can take a sit. Jamie Khah will suit it perfectly and no shock to see it sit a bit closer and overpower them in the last few strides. Just can’t afford to get back too far. We got top odds last week but anything over 10 is good.
Shout the Bar is amazing odds. Nearly the best group 1 form in the race. The thing we like is it races on the pace or can lead. Draw a worry but Tim Clark should take care of that.
Funstar is another that can race handy. And those are the ones we want. Likely to be just off them in the run and is another that is a group performer. Handles heavy very well where a few other popular ones are a query.
For savers and in case it is a run on, we can’t be sure until later in the afternoon, 9 Aegean has a great group record and 3 Olmedo is a real query to us. On overseas form could win but why start first up in the Doncaster unless it was ready? We really like the trainer and Tom Berry doesn’t have to ride 100/1 chances for the riding fee. All of these can be bet for .2 of a unit only.
